The store began retailing in 1959 with Paddy McCabe his wife Margaret. Paddy died in 1980 sadly, leaving Margaret to run the store with her five children. Margaret’s eldest daughter Hilary and sons Leo and Brian helped their mother through the 80’s and 90’s which were tough years. In 2000 Margaret retired and her youngest Oliver returned from Australia in September 2004 Oliver McCabe transformed Select Stores from a greengrocer into a natural health food store. He did this with his family whilst still keeping the shop open to customers. It took two weeks and lots of hard work and praying from Mrs McCabe.

Leo runs McCabe’s Oil (fuel merchants) whilst Mairead runs her hamper company, Select Hampers.

The Select Stores can offer the customer a gateway and guidance to optimum nutrition with the odd joke and giggle thrown in so it’s not so serious.

Over the years Select Stores has now become known as the “Hub” of Dalkey village. In 2005 it won Best Retail Outlet in the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown area. RTE's 'Capital D' and TV3's 'Xpose' have both featured the business. Select Stores is still seen as the local greengrocer with a good nose job. When you walk through the doors you will soon find out that there is something fresh and exciting around every corner. Check out the Bar, stay for an organic fairtrade coffee and spelt raspberry muffin or stay for lunch and have a Peach My Ass smoothie with Falafel hummus sweet onion marmalade pitta.

Follow that by doing a bit of shopping in the store, buy your seasonal fruit and veg and step outside for the organic produce display where we try and source local as much as we can. Have a facial with Oliver with Dr.Haushka and Trilogy natural skincare products “you’ll look amazing”!!! Ask Oliver anything you need to know about health and practitioners in the local area. If its nuts and seeds or baby food or Viridian Vitamin supplements you need, we have it under one roof and if we don’t, we’ll do our darndest to get it for you.

In 2009 Select Stores Dalkey was awarded the Irish Bridgestone Award for Best Wholefood Shop Category.

This was also the year Oliver McCabe became the male nutritionist on RTE's 'The Afternoon Show' to give advice and support viewers with food knowledge.

In 2010 Oliver founded and chaired the Dalkey Business Group which has led to the IloveDalkey.com website and the 1st Dalkey Book Festival with the support of local business, residents, schools and bodies.
